Saturday June 22nd 2024 10am - 5pm Y Stiwdio, Hermon, Pembrokeshire
Come and spend a day exploring colour and stitch on fabric at Y Stiwdio, a beautiful eco build Arts & Sustainability Centre, hosted by Cwm Arian Renewable Energy with the workshop taught by Sarah Holloway. We will start the day looking at colour relationships and mix paint using primary colours, to create our own Colour Wheels on A4 cartridge paper. Then using the inspiration from the Colour Wheel, we will mix paint to apply to Calico fabric with paint brushes and mark making tools. Over the lunch break there will be time for our fabric pieces to dry and then we can start to stitch into our painted and mono printed surfaces, to add textural mark making with thread. Just basic running stitch is enough to create interesting marks and patterns on fabric, however you will able to build on your stitch knowledge if you wish or may already have wider stitch experience. There will be a wooden embroidery hoop for you to use and keep, if you would like to stitch your piece within one. At the end of the day you will have a layered and textured piece of painted and stitched fabric that you may want to add more stitch to when you get home. If you would like to make it into a wall hanging, tips will be given on how to back and hang your fabric piece. There will be plenty of visual resources to help inspire you, including imagery by other textile artists. You will be given a resource sheet with links to colour and textile art, including references to books and videos. The images above are my own colour and stitch pieces. You can see images from previous workshops I have taught on my Gallery page.
All materials as well as hot drinks and biscuits will be provided. Please bring a packed lunch.
